There’s an old saying that you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat a stranger. If that’s true, then Fall River’s Alyssa Venancio showed exactly the kind of compassion our communities could use a little more of.
What should have been a routine visit to a neurology appointment in Fall River turned into an encounter she’ll never forget. As she walked toward the elevator, she noticed an elderly man leaning against the wall with a cane, struggling to stay on his feet while waiting for his doctor’s office to reopen after lunch.
“I asked if he was waiting for the elevator,” Venancio recalled. “Then he quietly said, ‘It’s a shame there aren’t any chairs out here. I’m having a hard time standing.’”
A Stranger Named Al
This gentlemen’s name was Al. He had already asked a nearby medical office if he could sit in its empty waiting room for a few minutes, explaining that he wasn’t a patient there but was having difficulty standing. He was told no because of office policy…
