PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Tensions are mounting on Federal Hill as a local restaurant owner and the area’s commerce association clash over the impact of outdoor dining, while several local businesses — including the restaurant — face health complaints regarding Rhode Island’s indoor smoking ban.
Francois Karam, co-owner of Opa The Phonecian, claims the neighborhood’s popular al fresco dining setup is harming his business rather than helping it.
“Listen to everybody,” Karam said, addressing Federal Hill Commerce Association President Rick Simone. “Don’t listen to just one, two, three, four businesses.”
