GROTON, Conn. — General Dynamics Electric Boat plans to increase its workforce by more than 30% this year. Leaders say that expansion is enabled by “extremely high” international demand for its submarines.
Electric Boat is the number one supplier of submarines to the U.S. Navy as well as other allies. The need to bolster the nation’s defense is also creating an economic boom along the shoreline.
“We can’t put submarines out fast enough,” Courtney Murphy, Electric Boat director of talent acquisition and workforce development, said. “Right now we have over 26,000 employees. Our goal this year is to hire another 8,000 between our Connecticut and Rhode Island sites.”…
