PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A jury has convicted a Fall River man in a 2022 shooting that left one man dead and another injured in Providence, according to Attorney General Peter Neronha.
Following a 10-day trial, 22-year-old Je’avonie Dorvil was found guilty of second-degree murder, two counts of discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, assault with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury, carrying a pistol without a license and possession of a stolen firearm.
Police responded to the intersection of Elmwood and Potters avenues on Jan. 16, 2022, just before 3 a.m. to find 35-year-old Biniam Tsegai and 28-year-old Merhawi Berhe inside a car suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where Tsegai was pronounced dead, marking that year’s first homicide in the city.
