Providence homeowner files lawsuit a year after sewer collapse sent sewage into homes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Nearly a year after a sewer main collapse on Blackstone Boulevard sent raw sewage spewing into nearby homes, a local resident has filed a lawsuit against the city to recoup tens of thousands of dollars in damages.

Anne Bergeron, whose home was one of two that were severely impacted by the July flooding, claims the city has offered nothing but silence in the 10 months following the infrastructure failure.

“There’s nothing quite like seeing your toilet explode with brown liquid,” Bergeron said, recalling the incident. “It covered my office, it covered my papers. We had over a dumpster’s worth of belongings that we had to literally throw away because they were contaminated by sewage.”…
