Rhode Island Statehouse Rug Corrected at No Cost Following $70K Error

A new $70,000 rug at the Rhode Island State House has been installed to correct errors in the state seals.

According to an NBC 10 News WJAR report, when the 1,120-square-foot rug arrived at the State House in February, state officials discovered that the seals in the carpet design had the state name listed incorrectly.

The State House rug was ordered several years ago after Rhode Island voters approved changing the state name in 2020, dropping the words “and Providence Plantations” from its official name.
