The Rhode Island State Police have announced in a release that a local man was arrested for numerous narcotics and firearms related offenses. The arrest was a result of a lengthy joint investigation by the Rhode Island State Police HIDTA Task Force, the DEA Providence District Office, and the East Providence Police Department.
During the execution of court authorized search warrants, Detectives with the HIDTA Task Force and East Providence Police Department and Special Agents with the DEA Providence District Office seized the following:
- Over 1,500 grams of fentanyl
- 40 grams of cocaine
- 10 grams of methamphetamine
- one loaded 9mm ghost gun with two loaded extended magazines
- drug packaging material
- two kilogram presses
- $2,450
30-year-old Lorenzo Medina-Rivas of Providence is facing the following:
Narcotics charges include:
- Possession With the Intent to Deliver over 1 kilogram of a Schedule II Controlled Substance – Fentanyl,
- Possession With the Intent to Deliver over 1 Ounce of a Schedule II Controlled Substance – Cocaine
- Possession With the Intent to Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine.
Weapons charges include:
- Possession of Firearms While Committing Controlled Substance Violations
- Possession/Manufacturing of a Ghost Gun
- Large Capacity Feeding Devices Prohibited.
This seizure is the direct result of investigative efforts by the HIDTA Task Force, the DEA Providence District Office, and the East Providence Police Department in their pursuit of violent, and often armed narcotics distributors.
