RI delegation to discuss bill that will tax major oil companies

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island’s delegation is pushing for relief at the pump as prices continue to climb during the conflict with Iran.

At 10 a.m. Monday, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressmen Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo will hold an event calling for a tax on big oil profits, saying gas prices have jumped $1.60 since the start of the war.

According to AAA, Rhode Island’s average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.48. The national average is currently $4.52 per gallon.
