Nearly 300 shoppers are getting money back from a New York furniture retailer after a $350K settlement

New York Attorney General Letitia James secured up to $350,000 from a Brooklyn-based furniture retailer accused of cheating consumers through excessive delivery delays, improper fees and damaged merchandise.

Payless Furniture Inc., doing business as 1StopBedrooms, will refund customers who experienced delivery problems, paid unlawful cancellation fees or received defective furniture under the settlement announced Tuesday. The company must also pay $75,000 in penalties and $2,000 in costs to New York state, and revise its advertising and business practices.

The Office of the Attorney General opened its investigation after receiving 270 complaints from consumers about the online furniture store, which is headquartered in Midwood, Brooklyn. The complaints detailed issues with deliveries and returns…
