Raleigh motel restored from 1920s to open late-Summer in historic Mordecai neighborhood

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — What was once a roadside motel in Raleigh has been restored into a boutique hotel that will open at the end of the summer.

The Gables will be an 18-room “boutique retreat” on Wake Forest Road in the Mordecai neighborhood, according to co-owner and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Tift Merritt. Also operating the renewed space is developer Daniel Robinson and Sarah Yarborough of Heyday Studios.

“We wanted to create a place that feels soulful, welcoming, and deeply rooted in Raleigh,” says Merritt. “The Gables is meant to encourage conversation, rest, creativity, and community.”…
