The Wake County school board has voted to raise school meal prices by 25 cents a meal at every grade level. That would raise the cost of a full-price lunch from $3.75 to $4.00 at elementary schools and from $4.00 to $4.25 at middle and high schools.
Apex High School assistant principal Jeannette Hill spoke against the price increase at the board meeting. She said that school meal participation promotes student achievement and attendance, and decreases student discipline incidents.
“I encourage you to value the power of school meals. I understand that budgets are tight, and that employee food and delivery costs have risen, but another cost increase is going to price even more families out of school meal participation,” Hill said…
