A pedestrian died Monday after he was hit by a vehicle on Atlantic Avenue in Raleigh, according to police, turning the busy north-side corridor into a crime scene for hours while officers worked the crash. Emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene as detectives stayed into the evening to document evidence and direct traffic around the closure.

The collision happened just before 5 p.m. in the 3200 block of Atlantic Avenue near Bramer Drive, according to CBS17. The outlet reports that Atlantic Avenue was shut down for several hours while investigators processed the scene, then reopened later Monday night.
Raleigh police told WRAL the pedestrian had just stepped off a bus and was trying to cross the street when he was struck. The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with officers, and no charges have been filed so far as the investigation continues.
