National blood crisis prompts pleas from patients: ‘We depend on it’

The American Red Cross declared a national blood crisis Monday, marking only the second time in the organization’s history it has issued such a declaration as blood donations fall short of demand.

Officials with the Greater Triangle Area chapter said blood demand traditionally increases during the summer months, but fewer people are coming forward to donate.
