RALEIGH, NC — A Lyft driver in North Carolina says a crash during what should have been a routine workday left him injured, unable to keep driving and still fighting for insurance payment. Osahon Aburime said the wreck happened while he was heading to pick up a passenger, and the collision quickly turned into a physical and financial crisis.
Aburime said he had already earned about $80 before the crash when another vehicle suddenly appeared in front of him. He said he braked, but the vehicles collided. Since then, he says he has needed a cane and has been unable to return to ride-hailing work in any meaningful way.

Before the wreck, Aburime said Lyft work was providing steady income for his household. According to Business Insider, he typically brought in about $1,700 a month from the platform, and that money helped support his family along with his wife’s pay from an eye clinic.
That income disappeared when the crash sidelined him. Aburime said he tried to see whether he could keep driving after the wreck because he needed the money, but his injuries made that impossible. He said the pain became bad enough that he could not even bend down, and walking has remained difficult without assistance.
A claim to Lyft’s insurer was denied, then challenged with state help
