RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says law enforcement is cracking down on illegal firearms. “We hear of these stories all the time, all the way across the country, where weapons that are sold or purchased legally by design, home little guys create alterations to those weapons. Those alterations are not authorized by the manufacturers and such, and they create an illegal weapon out of something that was originally purchased legally.”
This comes after a Carson City man, Jeromy Simon, was arrested in late May, after being allegedly found with illegal gun parts. “According to HSI, we had information about a week’s lead time that a young man here in person, Mr. Simon, was alleged to have been ordering and purchasing what’s called his Glock switches, which converts Glock pistol semiautomatics into an automatic weapon,” added the Sheriff.
Sheriff Furlong says it was a coordinated effort with the Department of Homeland Security and Carson City’s Special Enforcement Team. Simon reportedly has prior arrests in the area, related to firearms and obstructing or resisting officers.
