Reno Fire introduces facility K9 Lambeau to support first responders

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) — The Reno Fire Department has a new team member K9 Lambeau, a 1 1/2-year-old Labrador retriever trained to provide peer support and comfort for firefighters and other first responders.

Department leaders say Lambeau is northern Nevada’s first facility K9 specifically dedicated to supporting first responders, offering crews a chance to decompress after difficult calls.

“Lambeau will be instrumental in the work we do at the Reno Fire Department by providing our firefighters, staff, and regional first responder partners with comfort, connection and an opportunity to decompress after difficult situations,” said handler Katie Nelson, a Reno fire inspector.

A day on the job at City Hall and at fire stations

On a typical day, Lambeau starts his workday at Reno City Hall. He greets employees, attends planning meetings with the Fire Prevention team and then travels to fire stations to visit crews…
