LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Gov. Joe Lombardo toured wildfire sites north of Reno on Tuesday and met with local officials to assess the transition to recovery. He also thanked Nevada National Guard personnel and other first responders for their efforts.
The Bug Fire burned 93,733 acres, extending from the California border to the western edge of Palamino Valley. It is now 94% contained, with crews focused on monitoring conditions and restoring areas affected by firefighting efforts. The Stallion Fire, at 95% containment, burned from the northeastern edge of Palamino Valley to the southwest shore of Pyramid Lake.
When evacuations peaked, about 6,000 residents in the area were ordered to leave the area.
“While the immediate threat from these fires has diminished, our work is far from over,” Lombardo said. “I saw firsthand today the damage these fires have caused and the incredible work our first responders have done to protect Nevadans. We are going to stand with this community throughout the recovery process and make sure the state provides the assistance and resources necessary to rebuild and recover.”

With 436 personnel assigned to the two sites, crews are still ready to fight spot fires or areas that show any fire activity, officials said. Hot, dry and windy conditions are expected later this week with a potential for lightning.
