BLACK ROCK CITY, Nevada — Gusty winds blowing playa dust caused near-whiteout conditions at Burning Man on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 3, forcing officials to temporarily close the entrance gate.
Burning Man officials had warned attendees to ensure their belongings and shelters were secure. Similar winds the previous evening rocked the camp in the northern Nevada desert.
“The gate is currently closed due to whiteout conditions and strong winds,” officials advised attendees at 7 p.m. “Winds are expected to remain strong through until 9 p.m. Please be considerate about your timing entering the city if you are on your way. If you’re in BRC, tie your shade structures down and secure your stuff so it doesn’t don’t blow away.”…
