Nearly 800 volunteers remove 273 tons of trash in Reno-Sparks Great Community Cleanup

Hundreds of volunteers fanned out across Reno and Sparks on Saturday hauling away trash, clearing invasive weeds and restoring parks as part of Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful’s annual Great Community Cleanup.

A total of 788 volunteers worked at 26 sites across the Truckee Meadows, targeting illegal dumpsites and other problem areas.

Organizers said the effort removed 545,166 pounds of trash, or 273 tons, along with 120,814 pounds of green waste, or 60 tons.

Volunteers also spread 210 yards of mulch, planted 54 trees and collected 216 tires. The cleanup also turned up appliances, furniture and other illegally dumped debris.
