We never truly caught a break from the humidity this weekend, but at least Saturday was dry before rain and storms rolled through yesterday. The majority of that wet weather is gone, with some sunshine heating us up again today. It will be a sweltering one with excessive humidity still around and afternoon highs peaking in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Some cloud cover is rolling back in, which will help keep us from soaring well into the 90s, and a few spotty showers and storms will be possible out of this cloud cover. Most of any wet weather should be south of I-66 toward Richmond closer to the departing front, but the entire area is fair game. It will clear up tonight while staying warm and muggy.
The heat and humidity won’t be going anywhere this week, so we can be sure that part of the forecast will stay consistent. Our temperatures will stay in the upper 80s to low 90s tomorrow and Wednesday, with more sunshine than cloud cover on tap. This will be a nice dry stretch for us through the middle of the week, a small change of pace from the stormy pattern we’ve had. It won’t last forever, though, with the next storm system sliding in on Thursday. Widespread rain and scattered storms are expected, similar to what we had on Sunday. Some pockets of heavy rain will be possible, but severe weather doesn’t look likely. Even if we do end up with a few stronger storms, gusty winds will be the only threat to watch for.
An unsettled pattern will remain in place heading into the weekend as the cold front associated with this system gets hung up over the DMV, sparking daily showers and storms. The consistent cloud cover and rain will drop our temperatures a bit, down into the low to mid-80s, but it won’t matter much with how humid it will still be. Scattered activity will make the afternoons and evenings soggy on Friday and Saturday, but most of the unsettled weather should be isolated and winding down by Sunday. At this point, severe weather remains unlikely through this stretch, but a few stronger storms each day can’t be completely ruled out…
