RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger was among a group of leaders from around the country at the Lincoln Memorial Friday to commemorate the anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington as she announced she was restoring voting rights for 100,000 state residents.
Spanberger, in her remarks, spoke of leaders and citizens who continue to work to advance civil rights and voting rights. She said Virginia has made progress in making sure every eligible resident can vote, and urged Virginians to vote.
She also announced that, as of last Thursday, her administration had restored the right to vote for 100,000 formerly-incarcerated residents. She said Virginia was one of three states with a constitution “that permanently strips voting rights from citizens with felony convictions.”…
