Kettering Health, the Dayton-area hospital system, will not renew its contract with Anthem’s Medicare Advantage plans, and VCU Health in Richmond, Virginia is leaving three types of Anthem Medicare Advantage plans, both on January 1, 2027. Members of those plans keep in-network access at both systems through December 31. Medicare’s annual open enrollment runs October 15 to December 7, and a change made in that window starts January 1, the same day the networks split. Anthem members who use either system have until December 7 to move to coverage that still includes it.
The question for Anthem Medicare Advantage members is whether the plan held today will still reach their hospital and doctors on January 1. For Kettering patients, the answer is no under any Anthem Medicare Advantage plan, including Anthem MyCare. For VCU patients, it depends on the plan type: the HMO-POS, PPO and chronic-condition special needs plans lose VCU, while the dual-eligible special needs plan keeps it.
