Police: Mother in jail, son still at large after shooting outside of Colonial Heights pawn shop

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — Following a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of a pawn shop in Colonial Heights, a woman has been incarcerated, while police are still searching for her son, who was identified as the second suspect.

At 4:43 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, officers with the Colonial Heights Police Department responded to Cal’s, a pawn shop at 101 Boulevard, for the report of a shooting.

According to police, an argument occurred between employees of the business in the parking lot.

One suspect, identified as Warren Darnell Fields, Jr., of Petersburg, allegedly took out a handgun and shot at the victim, striking him multiple times.

Police said a second suspect, identified as Warren’s mother, Doretha Fields, also of Petersburg, then assaulted the victim by striking him with a handgun. Both suspects then fled the area in a grey Nissan pickup truck.

Doretha was reportedly taken into custody on Feb. 3 after a search warrant was served at her home in Petersburg. She has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and aggravated malicious wounding.
