Petersburg Police warns of phone scam pretending to be Chief of Police

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — The Petersburg Bureau of Police is warning the public about a scam call pretending to be the Chief of Police.

According to an official post on the Petersburg Bureau of Police’s Facebook , the Bureau has been alerted of a scam call that pretends to be the Chief of Police and solicits funds by telling citizens that they have warrants.

The Petersburg Bureau of Police said it will not contact citizens in this manner for warrants and advises those who may receive these calls to not give the caller their personal information.

Anyone with questions or concerns is asked to contact the Petersburg Bureau of Police at 804-732-4222 and request to speak to a supervisor.
