Salvation Army’s ‘Center of Hope’ aims to double shelter capacity in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – The Salvation Army is working to transform its Chamberlayne Avenue location into the “Center of Hope,” a $15.5 million project designed to curb homelessness in the Richmond area.

“The Center of Hope is not just renovating the building, we are providing hope to individuals and vulnerable populations in Richmond area,” said Major Christine Kim, Salvation Army area commander.

The project would allow the organization to double the number of shelter beds across the Richmond area. It would also create more space for medical care, shelter from extreme cold or heat, and new family suites…
