First class graduating from new program helping with radiologic technologist shortage

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Brightpoint Community College is holding its commencement ceremony on Friday afternoon, which will celebrate students and their academic milestones.

Among this group are 12 students who will become the first class to graduate from a new program training future radiologic technologists.

Within the walls of Chippenham MOB, Lexi Church is learning how to give back to her hometown, one X-ray at a time.

“I always knew that I wanted to help people and give back to the community,” she said. “We learn a lot about anatomy, a lot about X-ray physics. We spend a lot of time at clinical studying for exams and in the lab, this is where we do our hands-on skills to be able to do those skills in the real world.”

After graduation, Church will start working as a radiologic technologist at Parham Doctors’ Hospital, a moment she’s been preparing for at Brightpoint Community College…
