(FOX 5/KUSI) — A US Marine who was serving aboard the USS Anchorage during a training mission was reported missing Thursday, prompting search and rescue efforts to be deployed off the coast of Southern California.

The Makin Island Amphibious Readiness Group initiated search and rescue efforts around 1:21 a.m. on Thursday after the Marine was reported missing.
