Southern California man arrested after live-streaming standoff with deputies

Three people were arrested after standing off with deputies in a Ventura County home while the incident was live-streamed on social media.

On Sept. 18, Ventura County deputies responded to an apartment complex on the 4700 block of South Moorpark Avenue in Moorpark at around 1 p.m.

The suspects, who were facing eviction from the home, were identified as:

  • Edwige Mondesir Sr., 44
  • Maritza Miranda, 45
  • Edwige Mondesir Jr., 18

The trio refused to cooperate with deputies’ orders. Eventually, authorities used a battering ram to force the front door open and gain entry.

While inside, Edwige Sr. reportedly charged at deputies while holding a metal object over his head. He was struck with a less lethal projectile, prompting him to hide inside a back room in the home.

His son, Edwige Jr., allegedly “battered a detective” and was arrested after a brief struggle. The third suspect, Miranda, was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant.

As Edwige Sr. remained barricaded in the room, he began live-streaming the standoff on social media, officials said.
