Speed safety cameras live on I-81 in Roanoke, Botetourt counties

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – The I-81 widening project in Roanoke and Botetourt counties is moving forward, and Virginia State Police want to ensure safety in the work zone.

As part of that effort, police have installed speed safety cameras in the area. The cameras were announced to go live in early May, but they only recently started monitoring.

The speed safety cameras on I-81 between mile markers 143 to 150 were supposed to be active starting May 11. However, Virginia State Police told a reporter that the two cameras through the 7-mile stretch started monitoring the roads Tuesday…
