Roanoke County homeschooling family takes fight against VHSL to state court

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A Roanoke County homeschooling family is now taking its fight with the Virginia High School League to state court.

On Monday, the Palmers filed a civil injunction in the county after withdrawing their federal lawsuit the week prior. That lawsuit argued that current eligibility rules within the VHSL unfairly bar homeschool students from competing on public school sports teams.

The Palmers said their son Samuel, who runs track and cross country, is being unfairly sidelined by the league, and that the VHSL’s current policy is unconstitutional because homeschool students are barred while public, private and even virtual students are allowed to compete…
