SALEM, Va. (WFXR) – After almost 60 years in Salem, Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Virginia shut down permanently on March 18. As a result, almost 600 employees suffered layoffs.
Virginia Career Works and the Greater Roanoke Workforce Development Board say they know how important these workers are to the local economy and want to keep them in the region.
“It’s so important, and I think that’s one of our biggest goals,” Greater Roanoke Workforce Development Board Executive Director Morgan Romeo said. “I would also encourage any businesses that are interested in connecting with the Yokohama workers to reach out to us because we’ll have the ability to connect them and really make sure they get these quality employees in their shops.”…
