ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) — A Giles County man has been arrested after allegedly importing psychedelics from Brazil into Virginia and selling them on the campus of Virginia Tech.
28-year-old Charles Herman Aardema III, of Ripplemead, was arrested on charges of attempting to possess with intent to distribute dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and distributing lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), according to a federal criminal complaint.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Virginia, customs and border protection officers at the Miami international mail facility examined a package based on suspicious X-ray findings back in September of 2021. Inside, they found several plastic bags containing more than 11 kilograms of reddish powder, which chemical analysis determined to contain DMT.
