ROANOKE, Va. — Norfolk & Western J-Class 4-8-4 No. 611 will operate a series of excursions in June in July on the Virginia Scenic Railway, the Virginia Museum of Transportation has announced.
The excursions, from Staunton and Louisa, Va., will begin June 12 in Staunton, then relocate to Louisa for two weeks of excursions to conclude July 5. A longer excursion from Staunton to Gordonsville, part of the locomotive’s relocation to Louisa, is planned for June 22, with a diesel-powered return trip. The operation is a partnership between the VMT, Virginia Scenic Railway, and Steam Railroading Institute.
