Blue Ridge Kite Festival returns for 25th year

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Eyes will be in the skies this weekend for the 25th annual Blue Ridge Kit Festival, where thousands of color kites will fill up Green Hill Park.

The free event features food trucks, kite demonstrations from the Richmond Air Force Kite Club, and 1,000 free kites for kids while supplies last.

“Kites are a part of a lot of our childhood. You get a kite when you’re young, and you go play outside or out in a park, and it really brings out the inner child in everyone. It’s really great to see all the kids and their families flying kites all throughout the day,” said Alex North, the marketing and administrative coordinator for Roanoke County Parks and Recreation. “It’s really a great way for us to celebrate 25 years, because we’ll have a 25th anniversary photo op with a 20ft by 15ft kite.”
