DEA observes Fentanyl Awareness Day amid deadly crisis

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) says fentanyl-related deaths have decreased; yet fentanyl remains the leading cause of death among 18-45 yar old Americans.

The DEA marked April 29 as National Fentanyl Awareness Day four years ago. This observance is to encourage calls for prevention, education and community action amid what officials describe as the nation’s deadliest drug crisis.

In a pair of announcements this week, the DEA says it’s joining public health partners, law enforcement and community organizations nationwide to raise awareness about the dangers of illicit fentanyl, a synthetic opioid driving overdose deaths across the United States…
