HOMETOWN HEALTH: New research suggests eating eggs may reduce Alzheimer’s risk

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – An egg a day may help keep Alzheimer’s disease at bay. A study out of Loma Linda University Health found that people over 65 years old who eat one egg a day for at least five days a week could reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s by up to 27%. Researchers note that eggs contain nutrients that support brain health and memory function.

Long-held beliefs being challenged about strokes

A new study is challenging long-held beliefs about what causes the common stroke. Scientists at the University of Edinburgh have found that enlargement and widening of the arteries in the brain is strongly linked to lacunar stroke, which accounts for a quarter of all ischemic strokes, not the build-up of fatty deposits in the arteries. Researchers said the findings could help explain why taking aspirin and other anti-platelet drugs are not as effective with preventing lacunar strokes.
