Roanoke veteran reflects on Memorial Day significance

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Memorial Day is Monday, and a Roanoke Valley veteran said the holiday is a time to pause, remember those who died in military service, and recognize that some service members continue to struggle after returning home.

Andre Huneault, quartermaster for VFW Post 1264, said the day often hits close to home for families with generations of military ties.

“I think a lot of families have some type of connection, uncles, aunts, grandparents, great-grandparents … that have been in a war conflict, and we should take the time to reflect over this weekend about our family members, what sacrifices that they put,” said Huneault…
