FRIDAY AND WEEKEND: Abbott’s anniversary, Pride Festival, Canandaigua Arts Fest, and more

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Here’s your guide to what’s happening around the Rochester area on Friday and this weekend. You can see more upcoming events in our community calendar. You can also see our latest forecast to plan for your weekend.

Abbott’s anniversary celebration (Friday)

Abbott’s, the iconic Rochester frozen custard chain, is celebrating its 100th anniversary on Friday. The Abbott’s location on Lake Avenue is holding a ceremony at 2 p.m. where it will scoop its “Centennial Scoop.” After that, there will be a community celebration starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Lake Avenue location with live music, face painting, the Seneca Park Zoo-Mobile, and more.

The Lake Avenue location is Abbott’s first. The business now has frozen custard stands in seven states. The summertime staple was founded back in 1902, and opened it’s iconic beach location in 1926. The Lake Avenue stand opened for the 2026 season on March 18. Read more about the centennial celebration here.

Bands on the Bricks (Friday)

The Bands on the Bricks series continues on Friday at the Rochester Public Market. Multiple Latin groups will take the stage from 6 to 10 p.m. for “Latin Night” in partnership with the Puerto Rican Festival.

Bands on the Bricks has been running for over 25 years. People attending are encouraged to bring folding chairs, since seating is limited. Here’s the lineup for the rest of the season:

  • July 17: Latin Night
  • July 24: BBDANG with special guests Stunt Double and featuring Annual Craft Show
  • July 31: Donna the Buffalo
  • Aug. 7: Appetite for Voltage with special guests What’s the RUSH
  • Aug. 14: Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad with special guests iGNiTE Reggae Band

Movies with a Downtown View (Friday)
