Mayor Evans & RPD share updates on ‘senseless’ murders in the city

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Mayor Evans and the Rochester Police Department will share details about the recent homicides and violence that occurred over the weekend.

In total, there were six homicides this past weekend in the City of Rochester — out of those homicides, at least one suspect was announced to be taken into custody.

The first happened Friday night on Avenue D. Around 6 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting scene and found 54-year-old Jose Caraballo was shot at least once during a fight inside his home. He was taken to Rochester General Hospital via private vehicle where he died. No suspects in custody

On Saturday, police were called to Lyell Avenue near Austin Street for reports of gunfire. Three people were shot inside and outside a home. Two men — 29-year-old Jared Perry and 31-year-old Marquis Chambers — were found dead. A woman in her mid-30s was also shot, but she is expected to survive. No suspects are in custody.

The next day, 68-year-old Jose Hernandez was stabbed to death inside the Winton Garden Apartment complex. He was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital where he died. Police said the suspect in the stabbing was 71-year-old Raul Lazcano, a resident at the complex. Lazcano allegedly walked up to Hernandez while sitting down in the community room and stabbed him.
