Canandaigua PD: Suspect damages multiple businesses, police department

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A man was accused of damaging multiple businesses in the City of Canandaigua, including the Canandaigua Police Department.

Benjamin Shur, 29, allegedly committed numerous crimes causing thousands of dollars in damages to local businesses. Between April 20 and May 5, he was accused of kicking a hole in the wall at a restaurant, stealing a bicycle, and causing $3k worth of damage to an electric keypad at a business.

On April 21, 2024, officers were sent to a business on South Main Street and said Shur damaged several storage units. The damages totaled over $7,000.

After arresting Shur and taking him to the Canandaigua Police Department, it was alleged he damaged a cabinet door and urinated on the booking room floor. Officers said he refused to be processed for those damages.

Shur has been charged with eleven counts of third-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, and third-degree criminal tampering. He was taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.
