World’s Largest Steam Locomotive to pass over Genesee River at Letchworth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — This June, Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest working steam locomotive, will be passing through WNY as part of its coast-to-coast tour.

The tour is to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. On June 11, the massive machine will depart Buffalo, then stop in Silver Springs, pass over the Genesee River Arch Bridge at Letchworth State Park, and continue its journey to Hornell and Owego.

If you’re in the Rochester area, your best bet at getting a close look at the train would be in Silver Springs when it stops for fifteen minutes at the North Main St. Crossing. It arrives at 11:45 a.m. and departs at noon.

If you want to see more of a spectacle, gain admission to Letchworth State Park and watch as the locomotive passes over the Genesee River Arch Bridge above serene waterfalls at 12:20 p.m…
