Dr. Leah Gordon-Malott to lead Beloit School District amid budget crisis

BELOIT, Wisc. (WTVO) — The Beloit School District is preparing for new leadership as Dr. Leah Gordon-Malott is set to become the interim superintendent for the next two years. Her appointment comes as the district faces a budget crisis, including millions in cuts for the upcoming school year. Dr. Gordon-Malott will take over from Dr. Wayne Anderson, who is retiring at the end of June.

The leadership transition occurs while the Beloit School District is weighing options to make $5.7 million in budget cuts for the next school year. Dr. Gordon-Malott’s new role aims to provide stability during this challenging financial period.

Dr. Gordon-Malott has been with the Beloit School District for 28 years, previously serving as Dr. Anderson’s assistant superintendent for Curriculum and instruction. In her previous role, she helped prepare budget proposals for the district with Dr. Anderson. Dr. Anderson, the current interim superintendent, expressed confidence in Dr. Gordon-Malott’s ability to lead. “She has been my assistant since probably February. She’s worked intimately with me on each one of the proposals, so she knows them very well,” Dr. Anderson said. He added, “I think she’ll pick up wherever we leave off.
