MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. An Illinois man has been charged eight months after authorities say his 5-month-old son suffocated after being left unattended in a bed for about seven hours.

What we know:

Mount Prospect police said 19-year-old Kelvin Rudolph, of Rockford, was arrested Monday and charged with one felony count of endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death.

The charge stems from the Dec. 19, 2025, death of Rudolph’s 5-month-old son, Kai M. Moreno.

Police said officers were called to a home in the 500 block of North Elm Street at about 1:09 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive infant.
