ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford has landed at the top of a national ranking of under-the-radar Airbnb and Vrbo short-term rentals, with a study citing affordable home prices, strong visitor demand, and growing revenue potential.
According to a report released Monday by AirDNA, a company that analyzes data from Airbnb and Vrbo listings, Rockford ranked No. 1 among its “Best Hidden Gem Airbnb Locations in the U.S. of 2026.” The study identified 17 smaller markets across the country where investors may be able to generate strong returns despite elevated mortgage rates and housing costs.
Researchers said the Rockford area offers an average annual yield of about 14%, the highest in the rankings. AirDNA estimates the region’s average home value is just over $300,000 while a short-term rental can generate roughly $42,000 in annual revenue…
