Boone County Fire District 2 raises funds to help burn victims

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Boone County Fire District 2 Auxiliary presented a $1k check to the OSF Saint Anthony burn unit.

The fund came from the group’s “Light Your Fire 5k Run and Walk.”

This run has been put on by the auxiliary, made up of firefighters’ wives and girlfriends for ten years. It was originally created to raise funds for the department.

The auxiliary also chose to donate to the burn unit because of the amount of accident calls the department responds to.

“They don’t necessarily get to know what happens to the victims that they help, and so that’s why we support OSF, just because we know a lot of them come here,” said President of Boone County Fire District 2 Auxiliary Michelle Dixon.

“They bring a donation every year, that helps not only care for the patients, but also for their families in terms of being able to provide supplies and things that just makes their life a little more comfortable during the very difficult time, while they’re receiving burn care at our hospital,” said Director of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center Stathis Poulakidas.
