Armed suspect jumps onto roof to escape police, tracked down by K9

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — On Sunday, Rockford Police arrested Christopher Yerk, 19, on charges related to a defaced weapon after he ran across a rooftop and Auburn Street to elude authorities.

According to the Rockford Police Department, Yerk was one of several individuals spotted by officers in the middle of the road in the 1100 block of Oakley Avenue.

Yerk ran into the 1100 block of Sunset Avenue and was tracked down by a K9 officer. To flee, police said Yerk jumped onto and ran across the roof of a home, and then fled across Auburn Street where he was captured.

The K9 located the loaded handgun, police said.

He was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of Weapon with a Defaced Serial Number, No Valid FOID, and Resisting Arrest.
