Sycamore superintendent explains recent threats to schools over the last week

SYCAMORE, Ill. (WTVO) — After several threats to schools in Northern Illinois this week, one superintendent said they have a plan for almost every situation.

“We’ve had kind of a rough week here over the last week,” said Sycamore Superintendent Stephen Wilder. “We’ve actually had three potential threats.”

The superintendent talked about the recent threats made to the high school in his district. It is not just Sycamore as this has been an ongoing issue for schools in Northern Illinois and around the country.

“This is my 15th year as a superintendent and unfortunately, it’s one of the things that has become a reality for us is making sure that in our crisis plans, we have almost every situation that we can imagine, thought through and planned for in advance,” said Wilder.

Wilder said it is important to practice drills and have staff prepared for emergency plans. Whether a real threat or not, letting parents, students and staff know what happened and the status of safety is a major priority.
