FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Recent heavy rainfall is only making issues worse in the city of Freeport’s sewer system.
“There are special wipes, or there’s mass amounts of oil or grease in the system. We found everything from bedsheets to towels to things you wouldn’t believe being flushed,” said Environmental Health and Safety and Operations Coordinator Randi Kohlbauer.
Crews have already been responding to many clogged city pipes and now say they are seeing even larger amounts of wipes, grease, and other foreign materials in their sewer system due to heavy rainfall…
