Rockford closure narrows Illinois footprint
Smokey Bones has closed its Rockford location, reducing its presence in Illinois to just one remaining restaurant. The closure, which occurred in early 2026, is part of a broader wave of shutdowns tied to the company’s ongoing restructuring efforts.
With Rockford now shuttered, the Springfield location appears to remain open (it’s still listed on Smokey Bones’ website), making it the last Smokey Bones outpost in the state. The Illinois closure comes after parent company FAT Brands filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2026. The filing aims to restructure significant debt while stabilizing operations across its portfolio of restaurant brands.
