New group aims to ID structures for proactive landmark status
ROCKFORD — The pending demolition of the once stately Briggs Mansion has spurred historic preservationists in the city to seek out structures that deserve landmark status before they’re in need of saving.
A new organization called Preservation Rockford is coming together to take a proactive approach to protecting historically significant structures. The group aims to identify the 10 most significant or vulnerable properties without landmark status and work to get the designation in place.
